A Mustang and car club weekend in Normandy: cottages and scenic drives

A car club weekend brings together a shared passion, a scenic drive and time around the table afterwards. Choosing your accommodation matters just as much as planning the route. At Morville-le-Héron in the Andelle valley, Les Gîtes de Flaubert welcome groups in the Normandy countryside. Indicative driving times are around 25 minutes from Rouen and 1 hour 30 minutes from Paris, depending on your departure point and traffic.

A shared interest in cars, with Christophe’s Shelby

Your host Christophe owns a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 convertible. His black Shelby with red stripes, photographed on the estate, reflects his interest in cars. Mustang enthusiasts, American car owners and other car clubs can meet at a place whose host shares their passion.

Clubs welcoming several makes are also welcome. These photographs show Christophe’s own car; they do not advertise a car hire or driving experience.

Where can your car club stay in Normandy?

The estate has five cottages and sleeps up to 49 guests in 17 bedrooms, depending on the configuration booked. Tell us both your guest count and the number of cars: groups of the same size can have very different parking needs.

Up to 25 guests: La Cour de Flaubert

La Charretterie and Le Gustave together offer 8 bedrooms and up to 25 sleeping places, with indicative rates from €1,490 for two nights, including linen and cleaning. Shared living areas let you eat together and plan the next day’s drive.

Explore La Cour de Flaubert for up to 25 guests.

20 or 24 guests: Les Dépendances du Flaubert

The option for 20 guests in 8 bedrooms starts indicatively at €1,390 for two nights. Adding Le Gîte d’Emma brings this to 24 guests in 9 bedrooms, from €1,590 for two nights. The latter option includes Emma’s private two-person hot tub. Linen and cleaning are included in these offers.

Explore Les Dépendances. For a larger gathering, see our group accommodation across the estate. Confirm rates and availability for your dates. Sleeping capacity does not guarantee the same number of seats for a gathering or meal.

Three ideas for scenic drives from the cottages

These are suggested stops for planning your own road trip, rather than signposted routes or guided outings. Adapt the drive, breaks and visits to your group, checking opening times and parking before setting off.

1. Vascœuil, Lyons-la-Forêt and Lisors: villages and woodland

Suggested route: the cottages → Vascœuil → Lyons-la-Forêt → Lisors → the cottages.

Combine a stop in Vascœuil with a visit to Lyons-la-Forêt and, if you wish, Mortemer Abbey in Lisors. Allow a half-day or longer if you plan visits or lunch along the way. Roads open to traffic around the forest offer a pleasant setting for a leisurely sightseeing drive.

Plan your visits with the Lyons Andelle tourist office.

2. Les Andelys and Château-Gaillard: scenery along the Seine

Suggested route: the cottages → Les Andelys → Château-Gaillard and the Seine riverside → the cottages.

Combine driving with a heritage visit. Château-Gaillard overlooks a bend in the Seine; allow a walk to enjoy the site and views. A full day gives more time for sightseeing and a club lunch. Footpaths up to the castle can be uneven, so choose stops to suit everyone attending.

Consult Normandy Tourism’s information about Château-Gaillard.

3. Saint-Martin-de-Boscherville, Duclair and Jumièges: the abbeys

Suggested route: the cottages → Saint-Martin-de-Boscherville → Duclair → Jumièges → the cottages.

This full-day idea combines abbeys and Seine valley scenery. Saint-Georges de Boscherville and Jumièges abbeys are two possible cultural stops. Keep the programme flexible so that you can enjoy each visit.

Find ideas for the abbey route with Rouen Tourism. Check the exact route, any crossings and access arrangements beforehand.

After the drive: time together on the estate

Across the estate, facilities include billiards, Bonzini table football, darts, pétanque, table tennis, terraces, barbecues and Wi-Fi. Access depends on the cottages booked. Equipped kitchens help your group organise meals and continue the conversation after the drive.

The estate has private parking and an electric vehicle charging point. Tell us the number and size of vehicles and any particular needs so that we can confirm parking arrangements. If you drive a low-clearance car, discuss access constraints before booking.

A suggested weekend for your Mustang club

  • Friday: arrival, settling in and a meal prepared by the group.
  • Saturday: your chosen drive, breaks and visits, followed by an evening together at the cottages.
  • Sunday: breakfast, time to chat and departure at the agreed check-out time.

Share the route with every driver and arrange meeting points. Stop for photographs only where permitted, without obstructing other road users. Your club arranges visits, meals away from the estate and activities separately.
