Discover the Andelle valley: a countryside weekend near Rouen

For a Normandy break combining countryside with access to Rouen, consider the Andelle valley. Forests, characterful villages, historic sites and regional food make it a setting for time with family, friends or a group.

The cottages and outdoor spaces at Les Gîtes de Flaubert.

Les Gîtes de Flaubert are in Morville-le-Héron, within this rural landscape. Use your cottage as a base for exploring at your own pace, with room to meet again after the day’s activities.

A landscape shaped by the river

The Andelle winds between meadows and woodland. Walking and cycling routes offer different ways to discover the surroundings. Choose distances and terrain that match the group’s abilities and check current route information; not every path is suitable for every visitor.

The seasons change the experience: spring growth, shaded woodland in summer, autumn colours and quieter winter outings. Check the weather and any local restrictions before leaving.

Heritage to discover in the wider area

  • The ruins and setting of the Abbaye de Mortemer.
  • The Château de Vascœuil and its park.
  • Lyons-la-Forêt and its half-timbered streets.
  • Claude Monet’s gardens at Giverny, when open.
  • Rouen, with its cathedral, historic centre and connections to Gustave Flaubert.

Choose your stops and verify opening seasons, bookings and travel times. Giverny and Rouen can be planned as outings in their own right rather than additions to an already full day.

A destination for shared stays

A family reunion, birthday, friends’ holiday or company gathering can combine local visits with time at the accommodation. After a day out, share a meal or enjoy pool, table football or pétanque where these are included in the cottages you have booked.

Agree the number of people at meals and the spaces needed in advance. Overnight capacity and the size of a single dining space are different questions.

Stay at Les Gîtes de Flaubert

Our cottages offer equipped living spaces, kitchens and outdoor areas in a countryside setting. Individual houses and combinations accommodate different group sizes, up to 49 sleeping places across the whole estate.

Facilities depend on the accommodation selected. Booking a part of the estate does not give exclusive use of all five cottages. Explain your bedroom allocation and plans so that we can guide you towards a suitable available option.

Getting here and organising your days

Indicative driving times in the French guide are around 25 minutes from Rouen and under two hours from Paris. They depend on the actual starting point, destination and traffic; check routes for your own trip.

The valley offers a countryside alternative to a busy sightseeing schedule. Mix a heritage visit, a market or local meal and a walk, leaving time to enjoy the stay together.
